We would love to welcome you to our century home in the heart of Reykjavík. The apartment is perfectly located and within walking distance to everything downtown. The apartment is cosy and full of positive atmosphere. Most houses in Iceland are relatively new but our house was built in the 19th century, making it one of the oldest buildings here. The universities are nearby, the walk to the University of Iceland takes 20 minutes and takes you by one of Reykjavík's most charming landmarks, Tjörnin (the pond). The next bus stop is at Mýrargata, 5min walk away.
The apartment has a private entrance, facing a small courtyard behind the house. In the common area you can hang your coats. The apartment is located on the second floor and laundry is done in the basement. When you enter the apartment there is a corridor, from which you can enter a small bathroom. It has two living rooms, one which is used as a dining room and another which has a sofa and TV. The kitchen is quite spacious. Then there are two bedrooms, one of which is potentially yours!
We are a couple who own the apartment but I am going off to university for one year. In the meantime we would love to find a tenant to share the apartment with my girlfriend, a 33 year old computer scientist, and our cat. It is a large apartment so there would be plenty of space for the two of you. We are currently renovating the apartment, so at the moment we only have photos of your bedroom, the dining room, and the kitchen. If you are interested, we can have a video chat and show you the whole apartment. We can arrange furniture to suit your needs, such as a desk or an extra TV, either in your room or the apartment.
NEIGHBORHOOD
Our house is located in the Old West Town, one of the most sought-after districts in Iceland and the second-oldest one in Reykjavik. At the end of the 19th century, when the city center became too small for the growing population, it naturally expanded, along with its harbour, westward towards the sea. No development plan was in place until 1927, so houses popped up without any planning, such as ours. The organic layout of the buildings makes the area stand out. The first large road in Reykjavik, Hringbraut, was built in order to move traffic from Vesturbær to downtown. It was predominantly an industrial fishing district and our house used to be home to a marine company for decades. Before that it used to belong to a saddle maker. We found ancient horse saddles in the attic.
