I built my 24 meter barge in the style of a 1920's style dutch barge, and sailed it to the south of france. When I found this lovely spot in the port of Aigues-Mortes, I turned the engines off., and that was fifteen years ago now! Although I am retired, I am a people person, and I love having visitors share my very special ship with me. I liveaboard with 6 year old female border collie and a parrot. All rescues, and occasionally grateful for their good fortune. We are at the south westerly end of the port (in the Route du Mole google sometimes call it la Rayette but they are wrong). FREE parking next to the peniche. We have magnificent views of the medieval ramparts across the old turning basin. Alongside us there is the national park. There is abundant wild life all around like Pink Flamingos, White Camargue horses and fish just waiting to be caught. You can't swim off our decks due to busy commercial barge movements but some of the finest beaches in europe are just a fifteen minute bike ride away. It gets hot in the summer, but your cabin is airconditionsd for your comfort. Our kitchen galley is small and cluttered (I would say!), but delicious meals can be prepared there. There is also an outdoor "kitchen" reserved exclusively for our guests. Plancha, friteuse and an oven/rotisserie. Part of the wheelhouse is also reserved for guests. The other part is filled with equipment for ship maintenance. I built the barge and I keep prices down by maintaining it. It still cost over one million euros to build. We are only a 12 minute walk from the centre of beautiful Aigues-Mortes.
