Vila Real de S. António, is a Pombaline city (built by the Marquis of Pombal) after the Lisbon earthquake, it is a peaceful, flat city, bathed by the Guadiana River and the Atlantic Ocean. There are beautiful beaches. On the other side of the Guadiana River is the Spanish town of Ayamonte.
