Praia da Consolação is divided into two zones by the Forte da Praia da Consolação.
To the south, it has excellent therapeutic conditions - in an open cove, the accumulated iodine combined with other natural conditions, and exposure to the sun, provides medicinal treatment to benefit the spine. This fact is unique on the European continent and brings many thousands of people to Consolação every year.
On the North side, the landscape is completely different. From the fort you can see a wide and very extensive beach that stretches for several kilometers towards Peniche. Bathed by strong waves, this beach is very popular with surfers and windsurfers. It has coarser sand than usual in the region.
Peniche is considered one of the hot spots in European surfing, with its waves compared to the best in the world, which is why the Supertubos wave is on the world surfing circuit, WSL (World Surf League).
Close to SuperTubos (2km), Praia do Baleal (7 km), as well as Dino Parque Lourinhã (10 km), Vila de í“bidos (23 km), Caldas da Rainha (27 km), Nazaré (60 km) and Lisbon (84 km).
