I recommend this place highly, it has a vintage feel written all over, the host Illina is a very warm person, the staff is very helpful, courteous and well behaved, soft spoken. It used to be the residence of once of the tallest Congress leaders Siddharth Sankar Ray , who was also the Chief Minister of Bengal.

It was indeed a fabulous experience, I recommend this place highly, it used to be the home of erstwhile Bengal Chief Minister Siddhartha (Manu) Ray. The property has an array of vintage furniture and an impressive library consisting of even more impressive collection of books. The property is located at the heart of south Calcutta and is sarrounded by numerous eateries and bazaars. The host illina is very friendly and willing to help you, she treats you like her family member. The staff is very well behaved and extremely courteious. Possibly the best place to stay in Calcutta if you are looking for a peaceful homestay.

Ilina is a great host, the property is very centrally located, well connected, and feels like a home away from home. The entire staff is very co-operative as well.

Staying at Ilina's place was a wonderful experience. The house is very well located, in a nice area, Ilina is a kind and very helpful person and the food is excellent ! I will definitely go back !

Hi Ayan, Ilina, I loved Lalbari, the classic colonial experience. Your warm hospitality was really endearing. Right from calling to check when I am reaching, asking whether I need dinner prepared, giving instructions to the driver to reach your home, your warm welcome, the beautiful room I stayed in, and that huge collection of books you have thrown open to the guests. I will definitely come back to listen to stories hidden in the walls of this bari and experience the real Kolkata. Warm wishes for a wonderful new year to you both, Sridevi

Had really good time in the homestay. Rooms were neat and clean, Beautiful old house with all the antique stuff. Helpers were there through out the clock. Food was really good and tasty. Had traditional bengali non-veg food. Place is near by to Bus and Metro Station. can hop on to Metro ride to roam around the city. House is like a huge library in itself with lots of book to choose from to read in spare time. In front of the house there is badminton court for the guest to flex there muscle. If anytime in Kolkata, definitely this is my place to stay. Home away from Home!!!
